The Bush 2 administration has caused a shift in America, and it hasn’t been good for the country

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

By Mike Zaman

Bush’s Tax Cuts for the wealthy enacted in 2001 and 2003 which Obama plans to reduce has become a flag ship for the Republicans.

Yet congress controlled by the Democrats, remains catatonic giving the Republicans an unbridled opportunity to capture control over both houses this November, in which the tax cuts will be continued.

The Tax cuts so far have made a profound change in our country, it has allowed the wealthy to accumulate even more wealth and pay less in taxes. While main stream that 98 percent of America are on the fringe, if not already living in a sub standard culture.

Now there is a political fireball brewing in Washington, the Big Business advocates, the Republicans want to continue the tax breaks for the wealthy; their premise is that this will boost the economy. However so far it has had an opposite effect due to what is called hoarding. Perhaps their thinking, the Republicans, is the age old notion, feed your friends and they will feed you! After all that does seem to be how Congress and the White House have conducted business so far. The name of George Soros comes to mind.

The lavish tax cuts for the wealthy have done nothing for America; it has allowed the wealthiest among us to become even richer at the expense of what’s left of the Middle Class and decidedly the Lower echelon of our economy.

And not surprisingly 109 of the richest 400 Americans are in finance or investments.

And the latest tally demonstrates that somewhere in excess of 20 million Americans don’t have work…

Meanwhile Obama and congress fight over health care reform

Obama’s Backing Mosque In New York Irks Republicans

Reported By: Soha CRWE Newswire Mideast correspondent

The Republicans are infuriated over President Obama’s backing of the mosque near ground zero.

The Republicans said that he was `disconnected ` from the nation in an election year. Obama had backed the Cordoba House to be built two blocks from the`Ground Zero` site of September 11, 2001, attacks on New York city. Obama waddled into the issue while addressing an Iftar dinner hosted by the White House in honor of the Muslim community.

However he clarified his position by saying that he supported the right of the Muslims to build the center but would not comment on the `wisdom` of deciding its location in Lower Manhattan.

Prominent Republicans have opposed the proposed site of the center, saying it was insensitive and reopened the wounds of the attacks.

Texas Republican John Cornyn said `this is not about freedom of religion because we all respect the right of anyone to worship according to the dictates of their conscience…but I do think it’s unwise to build a mosque at the site where 3,000 Americans lost their lives as the result of a terrorist attack`.

Just 9% Want No Limits on What Federal Government Can Do

Friday, August 06, 2010

Eighty-six percent (86%) of voters nationwide say there should be “limits on what the federal government can do.” A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only nine percent (9%) believe the federal government should be allowed to do most anything in this country.

These views are overwhelming shared across virtually all partisan and demographic lines.

The only exception is America’s Political Class. By a 54% to 43% margin, the Political Class believes the federal government should be allowed to do most anything. Mainstream voters reject that view by a 94% to three percent (3%) margin.

At a July 24 Town Hall meeting, Democratic Congressman Pete Stark of California may have inadvertently articulated the Political Class view. In responding to questions about whether or not the recently passed health care law is unconstitutional, Stark said, “I think that there are very few constitutional limits that would prevent the federal government from rules that could affect your private life.” In response to a follow-up, he added, “The federal government, yes, can do most anything in this country.”

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on August 3-4, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

The gap between the Political Class and Mainstream voters is seen in other data as well. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Political Class voters believe the United States is generally heading in the right direction. However, among Mainstream Voters, 84% say the country has gotten off on the wrong track.

In his new book, Scott Rasmussen says, “The gap between Americans who want to govern themselves and politicians who want to rule over them may be as big today as the gap between the colonies and England during the 18th century.”

In Search of Self-Governance is available at Rasmussen Reports and Amazon.com.

Stark was responding to questions about a provision in the health care law that would require every American to buy or obtain health insurance. Most voters nationwide are opposed to that requirement for an individual mandate. Again there is a huge gap. While 72% of Mainstream voters oppose the health insurance mandate, 83% of the Political Class think it’s a good idea.

Most voters nationwide continue to favor repeal of the health care law.

Mark Tapscott has a good column in The Washington Examiner citing Rasmussen Reports data on the growing gulf between the Political Class and most Americans.

In his book, Rasmussen notes, “Following Barack Obama’s election, Democrats and liberals believed that voters were looking to be governed from the left side of the political center. The only question for Democrats was how far left the center had moved.

“Republicans and conservatives vehemently disagreed and claimed that the U.S. was still a center-right nation. Especially after the votes were counted in November, 2009, they debated whether Americans wanted to be governed from the center or by conservative values.

“Both perspectives are wrong. The American people don’t want to be governed from the left, the right, or the center.

“The American people want to govern themselves.
“In fact, they have been governing themselves for hundreds of years, continue to do so today, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

“That’s true regardless of whether Republicans or Democrats are running the show in Washington, DC.”

House Democrats Head for a Thumping at the Polls

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Democratic spin doctors have set out how their side is going to hold onto a majority in the House. They’ll capture four at-risk Republican seats, hold half of the next 30 or so Democratic at-risk seats, and avoid significant losses on target seats lower on the list.

That’s one plausible scenario. The shift of opinion away from Democrats so evident in the polls could turn out to be illusory. The widely held assumption that Republicans will turn out in greater numbers than Democrats could prove wrong.

Democratic candidates do indeed have a money advantage in many close races, and their campaign committee has more cash than its Republican counterpart.

All that said, this Democratic spin sounds a lot like the Republican spin back in the 2006 cycle. If the numbers don’t change too much from 2004, Republicans said then, we can hold on. If the numbers don’t change too much from 2008, Democrats think now, they can hold on.

But the Republicans, as George W. Bush said, took “a thumping” in 2006. And most signs suggest Democrats will take a thumping this year, too.

To see why, take a look at the generic ballot question: Which party’s candidate will you vote for in elections to the House? The current realclearpolitics.com average shows Republicans ahead by 45 percent to 41 percent. Ten of this month’s 15 opinion polls asking the question had Republicans ahead; Democrats led in four (twice by 1 percent), and one poll showed a tie.

Keep in mind that the generic ballot question historically has tended to under-predict Republican performance in off-year elections. Gallup has been asking the question since 1950 and has shown Republicans leading only in two cycles, 1994 and 2002, and then by less than the 7 and 5 points by which they won the popular vote for the House in those years.

So the Republicans’ current lead in the generic ballot question suggests they may be on the brink of doing better than in any election since 1946, when they won a 245-188 margin in the House — larger than any they’ve held ever since.

Another metric is daunting for Democrats. Polls in House races almost always show incumbents ahead of challengers, because incumbent members of Congress are usually much better known than their opponents. An incumbent running below 50 percent is considered potentially in trouble; an incumbent running behind a challenger is considered in deep doo-doo.

In 1994, I wrote an article in U.S. News & World Report arguing that there was a serious chance that Republicans could capture the 40 seats that they needed then, as now, for a majority in the House. It was the first mainstream media piece suggesting that, and it appeared on the newsstands on July 11.

I cited as evidence five polls showing incumbent Democratic congressmen trailing Republican challengers. None of those Democrats had scandal problems; all five lost in November.
Today, a lot more Democratic incumbents seem to be trailing Republican challengers in polls. Jim Geraghty of National Review Online has compiled a list of 13 Democratic incumbents trailing in polls released over the last seven weeks.

They’re from all over the country: one each from Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota; two from Virginia; three from Pennsylvania. Most if not all of these incumbents are personally attractive, hardworking and ethically unsullied.

Some of these poll numbers are mind-boggling. Tom Perriello, a 727-vote winner in Virginia 5 in 2008, has been running two weeks of humorous ads showing what a hard worker he is. A poll shows him trailing Republican state Sen. Robert Hurt 58 percent to 35 percent.
In industrial Ohio 13, which Barack Obama carried 57 to 42, a poll shows incumbent Betty Sutton trailing free-spending Republican Tom Ganley 44 percent to 31 percent.

As Geraghty notes, we haven’t seen polls released by many other Democrats on Republican target lists. Most are conducting polls; many have reason to release favorable results if they’re available.

This looks like a case where the absence of evidence is evidence of absence.

Two years ago, Barack Obama was elected president with a historic 53 percent of the vote — more than any other Democrat in history except Andrew Jackson, Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson.
These metrics — the generic ballot results and polls in individual districts — suggest that House Democrats are headed toward historic losses. Quite a swing in 18 months.

President Obama: His View about the Economy

Monday, July 26th, 2010

commentary pen

Reported by: Anza crwenewswire Mideast correspondent.

On 23rd July 2010, President Barack Obama in the Roosevelt room of the White House gave his view about the crippling economy.

President Obama considers the Republicans responsible for the economic losses prevailing in the country. He argues that the mess he is being blamed for is a mess that had accumulated in almost the past ten years. He also stated that these accumulated problems would take a long time to repair the damage.

The President, said in his weekly address “I am confident that we are finally headed in the right direction. We are moving forward. And what we can’t afford right now is to go back to the same ideas that created this mess in the first place.”

The President is facing Republicans’ opposition since he took office. Republicans think that the President has extended the unemployment benefits because Americans wanted jobs, the president has initially promised for. It is reported that presently 17 million Americans are out of work.

The President also gave his views about the alternatives suggested by the Republicans. He made it clear that the methods would result in more economic loss. He neither appreciated the idea of Republicans cutting the tax of the wealthy, nor did he support the idea of Republicans rejecting clean energy investments.
