Rainier Pacific Financial Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: RPFG), the holding company for Rainier Pacific Bank (the “Bank”), announced today its third quarter results for the period ended September 30, 2009. The Company recognized a net loss of $35.0 million, or $5.82 per basic and diluted share, for the quarter ended September 30, 2009, compared to a net loss of $3.0 million, or $0.49 per basic and diluted share, for the same period in 2008. The loss for the third quarter of 2009 was primarily attributable to non-cash pre-tax other-than-temporary impairment (”OTTI”) charges of $22.1 million relating to the Company’s investment in pooled trust preferred collateralized debt obligation (”trust preferred CDO”) securities, a $5.7 million provision for loan losses, and a $16.7 million charge against earnings to establish a valuation allowance for deferred tax assets.
